It was a great experience.” “It was a great day. The girls had fun.” “It was nice to have something for the girls to look forward to after the season.” “Woohoo! It was a great experience.” Coaches of participating teams in the 2025 6th Grade Tournament

The St. Boniface CYO teams host an end-of-the-season tournament at the St. Boniface gym in Sea Cliff. The goal is to provide a fun local tournament experience that feels different to the regular season. This tournament is not sanctioned by USA Volleyball and not affiliated with CYO but consists of CYO teams with paid referees. Congrats to the St. Rose – Maher/Cadmus team for winning the 5th grade tournament and St. Raymond – Makofske for winning the 6th grade tournament in 2025! (Note: this tournament did not run in 2026.) Details:

  • Fifth-grade tournament on June 14th and sixth-grade tournament on May 31st (2025 date)
  • Participation is limited to six fifth-grade and six sixth-grade CYO teams by invitation only; we are generally inviting top teams from the grade level. In 2026 we will have tournaments for fifth, sixth, and seventh grades.
  • Two groups of three teams for each tournament. Each team plays two matches (three sets) against the other two teams in its division and a third game (best of three sets) against a team in the other group. (Group one top team will play group two top team for the final, second place teams will play, and third place teams will play.)
  • Tournament runs from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM with a one-hour break at 4:00 PM. Group games will be consecutive or somewhat together (either 8:30 – 11:00 AM or 12:45 – 2:15 PM) with finals played at 5:00, 6:00, or 7:00 PM.
  • Cost is $300 per team, which covers gym fees, insurance, and referee fees. Fee is not refundable but can be transferred to another team if your team has to withdraw and you can find a replacement.
  • To register, send your team fee via Paypal (allan_wright@zephyradventures.com) or Venmo (@AllanSWright) to Allan Wright.

Tournament Rules

  • All players must be in the proper grade and have played in the current-year Nassau County CYO spring girls volleyball program. It is okay for teams to pull girls from other CYO teams in their parish if needed.
  • Group games are three games up to 25. Finals (sixth grade) are best two out of three. All games are capped at 25 (no “win by two” rule).
  • There is no home or away team. The winner of the coin toss will have the option to serve first or defend a side.
  • Sixth grade group standings will be determined on a win-loss basis. In the event all three teams have one win and one loss, standings will be determined based on the overall score (points for less points against) of the first TWO games of the two group matches. We do this to encourage teams that win the first two games of a match to give playing time to other players (if needed) in their third game.
  • Fifth grade tournament rankings will be based first on win-loss records, then on head-to-head play, and then on the net score of the first TWO games in each of the three matches.
  • Please don’t forfeit any games, including the finals. It is a bummer to the other team not to get to play all three games.
  • Teams need to provide a scorekeeper and lines judge and bring the game roster sheet but do not need an official CYO roster. Coaches do not need to bring their coaching badges.
  • All other CYO rules apply.

Things to Do in the Sea Cliff Area

Sea Cliff is a cute village with a walkable, small main street. For families with kids, we recommend:

  • Il Villagio Pizzeria: This is walking distance from the gym and the most family-friendly place in Sea Cliff, although barely large enough for a whole team.
  • Cactus Cafe, Chicken & Rice, Sobol, Lin’s Chinese, and Villa Mecci Italian: These are all right in a row in a strip mall a short distance from the gym.
  • Sea Cliff Beach: From the gym you can walk .7 miles to Sea Cliff Beach, with a route that takes you down the historic stairway. You can walk along the boardwalk and back up a second set of stairs that brings you to Tilley Place and back to the main street.
  • Clifton Park: There is a large park with lots of grass area just a short walk from the gym. Perfect for hitting a volleyball around!
